About Us

Introduction

Rehabilitation Empowerment and Development Nepal (READ Nepal) is non- governmental /not for profit organization registered with the District Administration office of Kathmandu in 2005 and affiliated with Social Welfare Council Nepal by group of healed leprosy affected people.

Objectives

  1. Provide medical facility to leprosy people.
  2. Provide handicraft skills and market their products.
  3. Re-integrate healed leprosy people back to their society.
  4. Provide free foods and shelter for needy leprosy people.
  5. Provide education for the children of leprosy people and artisans.

About Our Work

READ Nepal works to improve socio-economic condition of leprosy affected people in the field of social/financial and educational support by providing employment opportunity in the field of handicraft work. READ Nepal cannot produce all the products displayed in the web or whatever is exported but we do collaboration work with other needy people those who have craftsmanship and survive selling their skills respecting principles of fair trade. In the same manner, READ Nepal is providing employments opportunities in the field of handicrafts sector or other handicraft production partners for those artisans who have skills in craftsmanship in different arts. Apart from this READ Nepal provides free medical treatment, food, free shelter for old aged people and free education for ex-leprosy and polio affected social outcasts and children in Kathmandu.

Currently, READ Nepal has provided employment for 15 leprosy affected people and have provided shelter for 10 needy leprosy people including food and medicine at its rented premises. READ Nepal is producing different types of handicrafts to supports its targeted people in sustainable way. Besides, READ Nepal is supporting 11 children of leprosy affected people and other artisans for their education up to class 10.
